Volunteering sounds great, but what can I do?

If you're asking this question, stop. It's not 'What can I do?' The question is 'What do I want to do?'

You can volunteer in so many ways that the hard part is figuring out what kind of service you will ENJOY. What do you like to do? If you like working with kids, try tutoring. If you like working with your hands, look for a soup kitchen or a Habitat for Humanity in your area. If you like to walk, find an Adopt-a-Highway or an organized walk in your area (Such as Walk America or March of Dimes).

There is something for everyone when it comes to volunteering. Even if you can't handle kids and don't like to work, you can always do something. Find a nursing home or a hospital in your area, and bring a deck of cards. Many people are just bored. Stuck in the same place day after day, week after week, with little or no visiters can be VERY depressing. Help someone out. Play a game or have a conversation. Have fun.

How To Start

1. Decide what it is you want to do.

2. Find out where an How you can help:
Tutoring- Ask at the office of a local school
Working for an organization- Research on the internet.
Find their webpage if they have one.
Nursing Homes and Hospitals- Find one in your area,
and ask at the front desk.
Miscellaneous- If you can find it, go for it!

3. Start volunteering. If possible, set up a regular
schedule. You'll be more likely to keep helping out.
